Fungal infection
Chinese medicine has its interpretation for fungal infection. Is it red, burning?
does it exude any fluid? How long has it been there? Where is it located on the
body?
Simple questions such as these will help the diagnostic and devise an effective
treatment plan.

Fungal Infection - Female 32
Case History
During an acupuncture treatment for a chronic condition, Ms West revealed that
she has not been able to sleep for more than six weeks because she had a burning
pain in the groin.
Her GP suggested that she had a thrush (fungal infection) and prescribed the appropriate
cream. However the treatment did not seem to have any effect.
She described the site of the fungal infection, pain, red, burning and moist
Diagnostics
Chinese medicine believes that there is fluid circulation in the human body. When
this circulation is impaired, the condition is called dampness. Bacterial infection is often associated with a pattern called dampness and inflamation with heat. This is of course a simplified approach. Tongue and pulse diagnostics are necessary to draw the final conclusion.
The chinese medicine diagnostics for this case was damp heat.
Prescription
Surrounding needle technique was used in this instance as well as SP 9 and Ren 1
Treatment Frequency
A course of treatment consisted in two treatments a week for three weeks. Two
courses where necessary to clear the infection in this case.
Outcome
After the third treatment, the patient reported a noticeable reduction in pain
and discomfort. She could sleep for the first time for more than one month. We
decided to temporarily discontinue the treatment for one week and observe if the
infection was cleared. Unfortunately it was back the next week.
The second course of treatment cleared the infection. The patient contacted me again three months later to confirm that the thrush did not come back.
